Hi All

Tuesday 12thFebruary 2019:

Up early (6:30am) and met up with Lorna (Local) and Dave (Aussie) for a walk to the market. It’s Tuesday today so market day in Gasan. Scored some very nice fresh mangoes and star apples.

Lunch was at a Mahjong house (Friend of Guy’s) where the maid made the best pork sinigang.

After the lunch, the girls settled in for an afternoon of Mahjong while I took Dave for a ride to see our house as he hasn’t seen it yet.

Back in time for a nice late afternoon siesta.

Wednesday 13thFebruary 2019:

Off to the block this morning. Had a good run through all the power requirements (Light switches & power points) with the electrician. All where it should be.

On the way home, we went to see our bamboo furniture man. He can use the bamboo from the scaffolding for our couches and chairs so good to see we have found a use for some of it.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong. I had my afternoon siesta and went for a walk to the market for some fresh mangoes.

Thursday 14thFebruary 2019:

Happy Valentine’s day and 9thwedding anniversary my beautiful Wifie. It has been an awesome 9 years (together for 14 years) and looking forward to many many more adventures with you.

Back to the block and met with our foreman, plumber & electrician. Just to make sure that everything is happening when it should and in the right place. Once again everybody is organised and on track.

Valentine’s lunch was at the best restaurant in town. Awesome buffet of food that was very yummy. Guy off to Mahjong after lunch.

Friday 15thFebruary 2019:

Off to the block and met with the false ceiling installer / painter. Had a good chat to him on the process of firstly installing the false ceiling and then the painting.

The bank in Boac was our next stop to get some cash to pay the workers / contractors this week.

After lunch in Boac Guy was off to Mahjong for the afternoon. Early afternoon I caught up with John (Pom) and we went for a ride and visited Geoff (Aussie) who is visiting his block for a month or so.

Had a good chat to him then back home for my late-ish siesta.

Saturday 16thFebruary 2019:

Off to the block at 8:00am to meet up with the bamboo furniture maker. He inspected the bamboo we are using in the scaffolding to see if it can be used to construct our bamboo furniture.

The bamboo is well weathered and good for furniture. So, in a couple of weeks when all the bamboo scaffolding is dismantled, he will select the best bits for our bamboo furniture. We are looking at three bed frames, two long couches and some bed side tables.

Back to the block at 4:00pm as it is payday for the boys. Another huge week’s effort by them.

Finished off the day with a two-hour massage each. Aaaahhh bliss.

Sunday 17thFebruary 2019:

John (Pom) dropped in for his morning coffee while Guy and I had our weekly manicure/pedicure.

Guy off to mahjong after lunch and I met up with John for afternoon coffee at a local canteen.

Monday 18thFebruary 2019:

The HAM club did its usual Monday morning walk. Only three people this morning. After the walk John (Pom) shouted Guy and I breakfast at a local canteen.

Quick trip to the block and Guy off to Mahjong after lunch.

I gave Ruby a small service then went for a ride to see Ron (American). Had a chat and cup of tea.

Tuesday 19thFebruary 2019:

Back to the block as works ramp up. The scaffolding has started to come down. Internal fixings underway.

Called into our furniture man who is building our dining room table. Still in bits but slowly coming together. It is going through a drying phase at the moment. No hurry for it yet.

Wednesday 20thFebruary 2019:

The boys are working on the floor in both guest bedrooms, walls for two bathrooms, storage room, walk in robe and master bedroom/living room wall. Plumber and electrician working along side them. Busy busy.

Thursday 21stFebruary 2019:

Rendering of the back wall is underway. 2/3rds of our Lucena (Mainland) materials purchased have arrived. Minor issue with the water pump but can be easily fixed.

Guy off to Mahjong after lunch while I did a run to Boac for a few things.

Friday 22ndFebruary 2019:

Block, lunch, Guy Mahjong and me siesta. Typical day.

Saturday 23rdFebruary 2019:

Back to the block first thing to sort out our well water pump that was delivered from Lucena. Turns out it is a deep well pump and we need a shallow well pump. It was the suppliers mistake so they will swap the wrong pump for the right pump.

We were only charged for the shallow pump so all good. Our courier is in Lucena now, so should have the new pump next week.

Back at 4:00pm as payday for the boys and contractors.

We finished off the day with a two-hour massage each. Bliss.

Sunday 25thFebruary 2019:

No workers today so a bit of a sleep-in. Manicure/pedicure for us both in the morning.

Guy off to Mahjong in the afternoon and I met up with John (Pom) and we rode over to see Geoff (Aussie from Bundaberg QLD) for a visit.

Monday 25thFebruary 2019:
Started the day with a HAM walk with Guy and John (Pom).

Off to the block. Inside walls getting rendered. Should be done by the end of the week.
Electrician and plumber working their magic on their installations. Will be onsite everyday now just to be sure to be sure all the fixtures go where they should go.
The false ceiling man (also the painter) started today in one of the guest bedrooms. In the process of getting a quote from him to paint the whole place.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I had my siesta then a walk to the market for some supplies.

Life is good.

Trevor & Guy

Hi All

Monday 4thFebruary 2019:

Off to Boac to the bank to get cash for our trip to Lucena (on the mainland) tomorrow. It involves a 1-hour Jeepney ride followed by a 3-hour RoRo (ferry) crossing.

Going to a major hardware store to get fittings and fixtures for the house (electrical, plumbing, etc).

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong for the afternoon.

Tuesday 5thFebruary 2019:

Off to Lucena today. After a 1.5-hour jeepney ride, 3-hour RoRo (ferry) and 30-minute tricycle ride we arrived at our hotel.

After dumping our gear, it was off to the mall for some food.

Wednesday 6thFebruary 2019:

Today we visited the hardware store, tile/plumbing centre and electrical store to buy all the fittings and fixtures for a house to operate. We had a list of requirements from the plumber and electrician and our own list as well.
Took us all day with many phone calls to the plumber and electrician to clarify some items but at the end of the day it was all sorted. Once the shops have all the goods together, they will contact our courier for the island and he will pick them up in his truck and deliver them to the new house.
The house budget took a serious hit today but nothing unexpected and we even came in a little under budget, so all good.
Back home tomorrow to the island and some peace and quiet. I need a cup of tea and a lay down.

Thursday 7thFebruary 2019:

Quick trip to the Lucena SM Mall for a few last-minute items this morning. Then a 30-minute tricycle ride to the port, 1.5 hours waiting for the next RoRo (ferry), 3-hour RoRo crossing to our island and 1.5 hours in a jeepney to get home.
Glad to be “home” to enjoy our peace and quiet on the island.

Friday 8thFebruary 2019:
Nice sleep in this morning after the hustle and bustle of the Lucena (mainland) trip for house supplies.
Off to the block and caught up with the boys. Only a skeleton crew at the moment as they are building the septic tank.

Then into Buenavista to drop off a copy of the invoices with the gear we need picked up by Cristie (our hardware and transport supplier) in Lucena.

Saturday 9thFebruary 2019:

Quiet rest day today.

Gave Ruby a bit of a service and installed my temporary number plate. Who knows when the real plate will turn up.

At 3:30pm it was off to pay the boys and see what they are up to next week.

Finished off the day with a 2-hour massage each. We love our massages.

Sunday 10thFebruary 2019:

Commenced the day with our regular Sunday morning manicure/pedicure each.

After her manicure/pedicure Guy was off to a friend’s house (Mina) with Franie (our foreman) to have a look at some work she needs doing on her house.

Ron (Yank) dropped in for a coffee and catch up. For those of you who have visited us and know Ron, he hasn’t changed one little bit and we love him for it.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I meet up with John (Pom) at 4:00 for an early dinner at the local canteen. His shout.

Monday 11thFebruary 2019:

The HAM (Hiking Association of Marinduque) meet at 7:00am this morning for a stroll around the town bypass new road. We had 7 walkers this morning, so great to get people out for some exercise.

The boys are back to work today. They started removing some of the form work from the roof pour. The rest will come down over the next 2 weeks.
Internal walls now being built and rendering started on the outside walls.

Life is good.

Trevor & Guy.

Hi All

Monday 28thJanuary 2019:

The reconstituted HAM (Hiking Association of Marinduque) had its first walk this morning. Just a few old unfit expats going out for a walk for an hour or so.
Then off to the block. Well the roof pour is all set for Thursday and it is expecting to take 14 hours ish with 40 workers and 2 concrete mixers. Going to be interesting to see.

Tuesday 29thJanuary 2019:

Rest day today as we enjoyed a very nice sleep in. Then off to the market for some yummy food and fruit for lunch.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I was back watching series 1 of Homeland. Up to episode 6.

No block visit today as the boys are finalising the roof for the pour on Thursday.

Wednesday 30thJanuary 2019:

Well the big day for the roof pour is all go for tomorrow (Thursday). Finalised the last few things today so at 6:00am tomorrow morning it all starts. It is expected that it will take 14 hours ish of continuous pour using 2 concrete mixers with 53 workers. Bring on tomorrow.

Thursday 31stJanuary 2019:
The big pour is progressing extremely well with all 55 workers for the day. Spent most of the day onsite and will be back at 6:00pm for the final finish which is expected to be 8:00pm ish.
Only issue was we pumped our poor little well dry. So, a fleet of three vehicles carrying 44 gal drums of water delivered to the site where the boys emptied them into their water barrels. With this constant flow of water, it actually sped up the pour.
Stay tuned for the final pour.

The big roof pour is done and dusted. We went back to the site at 5:30pm and at 8:00pm the last batch of concrete was poured.
We paid the workers and included a very nice bonus (P1,000 ($27 AUS) for a double shift (6:00am to 8:00pm = 14 hours)).
I must say we are both so so relieved the pour is done. The only issue was the water which was sorted out very quickly.
We shall sleep well tonight.

Friday 1stFebruary 2019:

We have a roof. The boys finished up at 2:00am this morning (Friday) and are now off work till Monday. They deserve a few days off after the mammoth effort of the roof prep and pour. Awesome work.
I need a cup of tea and a lay down as well.
PS: Just to give a bit of perspective, the roof is approximately the size of a standard tennis court.

Saturday 2ndFebruary 2019:
Quick visit to the block this morning to give Franie (our awesome foreman) the workers’ last weeks pay as they are not working today (off till Monday).

After a quick roof inspection, it was off to Buenavista to pay our major building supplies provider. All caught up with payments now.

PS: We got some feedback from a few of our 40 temporary workers. They want to know when they can come back and work for us. They have never been fed and paid so well on a job. Great bunch of workers, so happy to reward them.

Finished the day with a two-hour massage each.

Sunday 3rdFebruary 2019:

Guy and I enjoyed a manicure/pedicure each in the morning with Josefin (P120 each $3.16 AUS).

After lunch Guy was off to Mahjong and I went for a ride on Ruby to visit Gerald (Pom).

Life is good.
