Hi All

Monday 25thMarch 2019:
Off to see the bamboo furniture people this morning. They have completed our bed, 1 x couch and a bench for the end of the bed. Looks great. Organised transport to the block where it is being stored in the Italian place next door (where we stored our building materials).

Had a win today. For the first time in 4 months I was able to have a cup of tea with real milk (well, long life milk from NZ). And it was damn good. Dairy is almost non-existent here on the island so it was a real bonus to find 2 litres of the milk at the local “supermarket”.

We have been using powdered milk which isn’t too bad as we found a good one. But it is nothing like the real milk.

Tuesday 26thMarch 2019:

Off to the block and meet the cushion maker. Our bamboo furniture arrived yesterday and is being stored in the Italian house next door (bed, couch & bench). The cushion maker measured up the couch as we are getting a padded seat, backrest pillows and loose pillows.

Also discussed the next week’s work onsite. Lots still happening.

Ruby had surgery this morning. The previous puncture fix started leaking. So found a tire repair man just down the road who does tubeless tires and all good. Cost P100 – $2.70 AUS.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I went for a ride to see Ron (American). He is going blind so loves to see visitors for a chat.

Wednesday 27thMarch 2019:

The front fence construction started today. It will be a bamboo fence made from the old scaffolding and some new bamboo cut from our block up by the main road.

Guy off to Mahjong after lunch. I had my siesta and then went for a ride down the coast exploring on Ruby.

Thursday 28thMarch 2019:

Meet with the carpenter this morning and ran through the kitchen benches and island and shelving requirements. He starts his construction on Monday.

Friday 29thMarch 2019:

Meet with Marelco (power provider) re getting the power to our house. As we are 100m + from the main road/power line, we need to install 3 power poles for the wires to our house (at our cost). Also got to pay for the extra cable as you only get 30m from the main lines.

Got our foreman organised to get the poles installed by tomorrow. Back to Marelco Monday to pay the extra cable fee and then hopefully get the power hooked up by the end of the week.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I went for a ride to catch up with Gerald (Pom) for a chat.

Saturday 30thMarch 2019:

Quick trip to the block first thing in the morning. Then back at 4:00pm to pay the boys and contractors.

On the way home we dropped into the furniture man and saw our Acacia coffee table. This coffee table was made from the big Acacia tree we had to cut down for the house.

They did an awesome job and it is stunning. We have an 8-seater dining room table still to come made out of the same tree.

Finished the day with a 2 hour massage each.

Sunday 31stMarch 2019:

We enjoyed our regular Sunday manicure/pedicure this morning. Then off to a local canteen for a treat of burgers and fries for lunch.

Guy off to Mahjong and I had a relaxing afternoon defrosting our apartment’s bar fridge. The freezer section was a huge block of ice and took hours to defrost.

Life is good.

Hi All

Tuesday 19thMarch 2019:
Back to the Marelco office (in Buenavista) this morning with all the correct paperwork for our power connection to the house. We were missing a couple bits of paperwork yesterday.
Our electrical engineer confirmed later in the day that all is now good.
We get an inspection on Monday and then the connection to follow. So now looks like a week or two to get power.
The boys started the hollow block fence round the top of the roof. Electrical, plumbing, tiling and painting still in full swing.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong. I had my afternoon siesta, went TV shopping (surprisingly they had a good (limited) selection), had my afternoon walk around the town and lastly picked up a few supplies at the market.

Wednesday 20thMarch 2019:

Met with our wooden door man this morning and inspected our handmade wooden doors (5 of). Awesome job. Will install when the painting is finished. A few weeks away yet.
Also ordered a handmade wooden TV stand to match the doors and 4 engraved panels for the kitchen island.
Then meet with our table and chairs man. Also coming along very nicely. These are being made from the wood from a tree on our block.
Tiling now starting on the lounge/kitchen. The boys are also still working on the two bathrooms at present.

Thursday 21stMarch 2019:
The clean-up of the front yard has started. All the old scaffolding is in the process of being moved out the back and the materials no longer useful are being burnt.
The front bamboo fence has now been pegged and is about to be started. We have decided to fence the block with a bamboo fence for now. Once we get a car and the landscaping plan sorted, we will then put up a hollow block fence (in a year or so).

Guy off to Mahjong after lunch and I did my usual siesta, market run and walk.

Friday 22ndMarch 2019:

The stairs’ stainless steel handrail commenced installation today. All being fabricated/assembled onsite.
After lunch I dropped into Gerald’s (Pom). He has 10 orphaned piglets. Sadly, the mother died giving birth on Monday. So, every 2 hours he is up feeding them.
I now know why I will never have a piggery.

Saturday 23rdMarch 2019:

The stairs’ stainless steel handrail is now being manufactured and installed.
All other work continuing full steam ahead (tiling, painting, rendering, plumbing, electrical and pump shed).

No Mahjong today as payday for the boys. Guy also has a touch of the flu so a very nice siesta/rest afternoon was had by all.

Finished off the day with a 2-hour massage each in the evening. (P350 = $9.46 each).

Sunday 24thMarch 2019:

Rest day today. No workers.

Guy and I enjoyed a manicure/pedicure each in the morning with Josefin (P120 each $3.16 AUS).

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I had my siesta and walk around the town. Then gave Ruby a service and check over.

At 6:00pm we were off to our friend Gil’s birthday party.

Life is good.

Hi All

Monday 11thMarch 2019:
Early start at the block as we need to peg out the electric pump shed so the boys can start building.

Originally, we were going to have a separate pump and generator sheds but have now combined the two. The single shed will be for the electric pump for the well plus pressure tank, the generator, a Ruby garage and building supplies storage.

The painters also started and will be painting (5 coats) the two guest bedrooms first.

At 4:00pm we headed back to our next-door neighbours as it is Semie’s 50thbirthday party. Awesome neighbours Semie and Ben (French Canadian).

Tuesday 12thMarch 2018:

Out to the block and met with the electrician. We then followed him into Buenavista (4km) to the Marelco office (electricity supplier) to get the paper work under way for connecting the power. More paperwork.

After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I caught up with John (Pom).

Wednesday 13thMarch 2019:

Another busy day at the construction site. Awesome supervision by our foreman Franie. Keeps everything/everybody organised and coordinated.
Painting concrete here consists of:
~ Washing the walls with a cleaning agent
~ A white filler coat (Putty like)
~ A Water proofing coating (Outside only)
~ A primer coat
~ 3 x Main coats of paint

Thursday 14thMarch 2019:

Work, work, work. No rest for the wicked.

AM block visit. Guy off to Mahjong after lunch. I had my siesta and then my afternoon walk around the town.

Friday 15thMarch 2019:

Got our building permit up today. Only 3.5 months since we applied. Guess we can start building now.

Off to the Marelco office in Boac (capital) to get the power meter box for our supply post. Then to the Marelco office in Buenavista to apply for a connection. We were missing a couple bits of paper work so back on Monday with all the requirements.

Guy off to Mahjong after lunch and I had my usual siesta and walk around the town.

Saturday 16thMarch 2019:

Quick trip to the block in the morning. Then back at 4:00pm as it is payday for the boys.
We both were pampered today with a foot spa (P200 = $5.40 each) each in the morning followed by a 2-hour massage each in the evening. (P350 = $9.46 each).
No Mahjong today for Guy.

Sunday 17thMarch 2019:

Rest day today. No workers.

We both had our standing manicure/pedicure in the morning. After lunch Guy off to Mahjong and I had my siesta and then gave Ruby a service and check over.

Hi All

Tuesday 26thFebruary 2019:
Rendering of the walls in full swing. Should be finished by the end of the week.
Window man here tomorrow to measure up.
Ceiling man back tomorrow to start in the guest bedrooms (waiting on materials).
Plumber and electrician working on their installations.

Guy off to a birthday party late morning then Mahjong.

I had my afternoon siesta and then a walk around the town.

Thursday 28thFebruary 2019:

Off to Boac (40km round trip) to see the window man after his visit to the site yesterday to measure up all the doors and windows. He had a contract prepared which lists all the work required.

He showed us some samples of the materials he will use and we then paid half the contract price. We pay the rest on installation.

Lunch in Boac and then Guy off to Mahjong for the afternoon.

I went for a ride to the block to check out progress. Once back in Gasan did my fresh food shop at the market. Snuck in a little siesta as well.

Friday 1stMarch 2019:

The concrete floor for the passageway, kitchen/lounge poured today.
Ceiling installation is underway. Also agreed on the painting (inside & out) contract cost (same people as ceiling installers).
Plumber installing water and drainage pipes.
Outside rendering being completed.

One of the great things about Marinduque you can hike for an hour and be in beautiful jungle with no people.

Life is good.
